Here's another
passion of mine. Below I've collected some information and links to some great products and services
that are cruelty-free and links to some not so great products.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we
can spare, and love we can spare. And in
return, dogs give us their all. It's the
best deal man has ever made. - M. Acklam
When the subject of animal
experimentation or abuse comes up, a lot
people don't want to hear it since it
can be too depressing to think of. Some don't care as long
as it's not their pet or some don't care at all. And others
think that they can't do anything about it and would prefer to look the
other way because its too much to deal with. But I think if you only manage to save one animal from
horrible pain, then you have made a difference to that one.
Imagine if everyone would go out of
their way to save just one. That's a lot of love. Here's my
part.
(Some of this
might be a little graphic.)
In 2001 my
psychology teacher showed us a hidden video of some research facilities that
test popular consumer products.
This video changed my mind about a lot of
things and made me sick to my stomach in the process.
Over 75% of lab animals do not receive any type of pain
killer. Some of the tests didn't even seem necessary. In one part, they were burning
animals alive and you could hear them crying. In another, they dropped soaps, acid, and
other ailments into rabbit eyes. Occasionally they would open the skin and
pour in Drano, weed killers, or just forced the animal to swallow their
product to see how
they would react. In one, there
was a baby monkey that was hooked up to a shock machine, which
gives out the sensation of falling from high altitudes...which I don't even see the point of. And more.
Click
on this link for additional information on a few of these particular tests.
(The truth seriously sucks. An even more devastating thing I found was that some of these animals were people's
pets at one time. Several of these places had taken pets from the pounds -
or even went as far as removing collars on one's they find in
neighborhoods (which is another good reason to get your pet micro-chipped).
After the video, I felt helpless. What was I supposed to do
about this? What could I do? These were innocent living things that
were being put through unnecessary pain and suffering when there are so many
tests out there today that could have been used instead because of our
increasing technology. It's horrific. So I figured if anything, I could provide a list. A list of bad vs. good. I'm
not saying I will hate you if you use these products - I just want to put
it out
there and make it known. For me, it's better than looking the other
way. Be prepared to find some of your favorite
products on the testing page. I know some of mine were.
I've always thought that most things that
can't speak out usually need someone else to do it for them. Animals.
Infants. The mentally challenged. A lot of people ignore their
forms of communication because it's not in their language. It's not
blunt. But it still means something. You can tell they're
scared, or suffering and usually confused as to what reason. They can still feel, and hurt,
and think, and show emotion. The have lungs, and hearts, and brains.
But some people don't want to acknowledge that. They can't comprehend that the
world is not just about them and/or their fellow humans. They just want
their needs to be met, no matter what the consequences.
Thanks for
reading through this. And I'm really not as crazy as you might be thinking now.
Well. Sort of crazy. But it's worth it.
